Region celebrates a winning drive, readies for spotlight
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Roger Staubach likened it to the birth last week of his 12th grandchild.
"This is kind of a thrill of a lifetime," he said.
Jerry Jones, a man who could smile through an earthquake, at one point had to fight back tears.
"We wanted it so bad, and we can do such a good job," said Mr. Jones, the Dallas Cowboys' owner.
Both were speaking, of course, of the announcement Tuesday that the National Football League had awarded the 2011 Super Bowl to North Texas.
The game will be played Feb. 6, 2011, in the Cowboys' new stadium being built in Arlington. With a seating capacity of almost 100,000, the retractable-roof stadium will be the largest venue for a Super Bowl since the game was last played in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., in 1993.
With that, a banner was unveiled that said, "Arlington Welcomes Super Bowl XLV in 2011."
