Legacy Boxer Rescue along with Humane Society of North Texas, Ellis County SPCA, Second Chance Boxer Rescue, Mountain State Boxer Rescue and One Tail at a Time Rescue is embarking on an important journey to get boxers to safety! Thanks to the combined volunteer efforts of these groups, we are going to make history with our first transport of boxers from Texas to the Northern States!! For anyone that regularly visits our website, and more importantly, our "boxers in need" page, you know that over the past several months rescues in North and Central Texas have been overwhelmed by the number of boxers needing our help. With over 70 boxers currently in foster care at LBR, we're simply too full to keep up with this boxer deluge. So, the volunteers at LBR decided to join forces with the above named organizations to transport a number of boxers to boxer rescues in the Northern states. Due to better spay/neuter laws in the northern portion of our country, these rescues are seeing fewer boxers in shelters, hence, they are able to help us out with our ever expanding problem of finding proper care for these boxers in need here in Texas. Beginning Sunday, July 1st, 2007, we will begin readying the chosen 9 boxers for their trip North. We will be picking up the individual boxers at their current location and transporting them to our "staging area". In the staging area they will be vaccinated against Rabies, groomed and given a clean bill of health for traveling by a local vet. On the morning of Monday, July 2nd, they begin their journey north. LBR has procured a diesel 3/4 ton pick up and well ventilated trailer for the journey, to assure these boxers are as comfortable as we can possibly make them for their journey "home".
LBR Volunteers, Melaney Munday and Amy Brown, have generously donated
their time off from their actual jobs to provide the driving force
behind this momentous transport effort. Never before has LBR attempted
anything so radical to help boxers in need, and we are thrilled with
the willingness of these other organizations to help us in our efforts.
We could not do it without them.
The Legacy Express road trip will consist of over 2,880 miles round
trip. There are several expenses involved as well such as truck rental
and fuel. The estimated cost for the total transport is $1,500.00. LBR
will be covering the costs of all
expenses for this transport. And, while LBR is on a tight budget
because of the 70+ boxers in our care who have recently needed some
very expensive vet care, including two Femoral Head Osteotomy surgeries
(for Dora and Andi), we feel that this is money well spent to save
these 9 boxers.
LBR would appreciate your financial support for the Legacy Express!
Please keep an eye on this site because our transporters will be in
touch with us through the entire journey and will be sending updates
and pictures all along the way.
Thank you for your continued support!!
All aboard!!!! |

We, the founder and volunteers of Legacy Boxer Rescue, have made it our mission to seek out these Boxers and create a legacy they deserve, a loving family and home of their own.
We firmly believe that a Boxer's future should never be uncertain, so we will help to create better, happier legacies for them; one Boxer at a time.
A legacy that replaces despair with hope, sorrow with happiness, fear with security, and pain with love.

BOXERS IN NEED!
The following boxers need you. They are currently in local shelters or in homes that can no longer care for them for whatever reason. LBR has been asked to help them, but we cannot take them into our program because our foster homes are full. LBR provides all food, vetting a crate, and basic essentials like leash and collar, for each foster boxer - please help us help them!
Please note that in most cases, LBR has no other information about these boxers other than what's listed here.
There are also boxers in shelters that we do not have pictures of. We need all the help we can get at this point. If you are interested in fostering for us, please fill out our foster application by clicking here.

BIN7289Sex: Male Is s/he safe from euthanasia?: No Other Info: Bob Barker is 1 1/2 years old and currently seems to be having some kind of seizures. I have kept him indoors the last few days and he seems to be doing better. He is house trained, loving and a great looking boxer. It kills me to have to try to find him another home, but I won't be able to afford the medical bills that I believe he will need in the future. Currently he is up to date on all of his shots. He had a small growth on his throat in the past, but it seems like it has gone away. I don't know if it was some kind of infected bite, or a possible tumor. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to find Bob a home where he can have the proper treatment he deserves. Click here to fill out our foster application! SO YOU'RE READY TO ADOPT?
So, you’re ready to adopt a boxer from Legacy Boxer Rescue? Before we
can begin the adoption process, you must fill out an Adoption
Application in it’s entirety. The following requirements must be met
before an adoption can take place:
ONCE WE'VE RECEIVED YOUR APPLICATION...
Once we have received your completed application, here is a list of
what you can expect. We realize that this seems like a lot, and it may
even seem invasive to some, but we want you to adopt a boxer if you
meet the criteria described herein, so please bear with us. Most, if
not all, of our volunteers work full time and have families of their
own to care for, and we do our best to ensure that all applications are
processed in a timely fashion but we do ask that you please have
patience.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY APPLICATION IS APPROVED?
Once your application has been approved and you have found the boxer of
your dreams, there are only a few items remaining in this process.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
Where do you find the dogs? Our
boxers come in from area shelters, from families that are no longer
able to care for them properly, from vet clinics where they've been
left. If at anytime a boxer is in need, we will do our best to help
them.
Why did someone disown the dog?
Is there a shelter for the rescue dogs? LBR does not have a shelter that houses it's boxers. Our volunteers have opened up their homes and keep foster boxers for our program.
What is a foster parent? A foster parent is one of the most selfless people in the world. They open up their homes and their hearts to a boxer in need and get them healthy enough to be adopted to their forever homes.
How can I become a volunteer? If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact us at info@savetheboxers.com.
What is the adoption fee? Our adoption fee ranges from 175-300 dollars.
What is the adoption process? Please visit our Available Page for more information.
How can I see/meet your available boxers? Visit us at one of our Meet a Boxer events.
Are the boxers healthy? Before leaving our care, our dogs are healthy to the best of our vets knowledge. They receive a heartworm test and if positive are cured of them. They are spayed or neutered and have received a full set of immunizations. Our boxers are also provided monthly heartworm and flea preventative while in our care. Their vet records will be provided for you upon adoption.
How long does the adoption process last? Each situation is different, in some cases it can be a few days, others can take a month or two. Most applications are completely processed within a week.
How long does a boxer stay with it's foster parent? It depends on the boxer. Boxers that come in with heartworms have an extensive recovery period, usually lasting a month. Some dogs just stay a few days if there is enough interest in them.
What is the personality of a boxer? Please visit our Are You Ready page for more information.
Do boxers drool? Only when they want Cheetos! Seriously, most boxers are not chronic droolers. Some do drool when anticipating food, and they may get frothy when playing hard.
Why are most white boxers deaf? Please visit our White Boxer page for more information.
